Do you need one? probably not

Run the checklist. Calls to family: WhatsApp, FaceTime, Telegram, all over data. Bank and verification SMS: they go to your home number, so keep your home SIM active with data roaming off, receiving texts is usually free or cheap. Restaurant bookings: done in apps or by the hotel. That covers about 95% of travelers, which is why data-only plans dominate our main guide.

The real cases for a number: incoming calls from Greek locals (drivers, landlords, delivery), outgoing calls to Greek landlines, services that insist on ringing you back, and verification flows that reject foreign numbers. Weeks-long stays tick these boxes; beach holidays rarely do.

The option Drimsim, with caveats

Drimsim is a universal roaming SIM/eSIM with a real number and pay-per-use billing: about €0.01/MB in Greece, roughly €10/GB (≈$11), calls via their Drimphone app, no bundles and no expiry. The entry cost is €10 for the eSIM plus a €25 minimum top-up: €35 (about $38) before your first megabyte.

Caveats, plainly: per-GB it is 4–5 times pricier than our data picks, its Trustpilot presence is thin (2.7 from 11 reviews, profile unclaimed), and the model suits light, multi-country use, not data-hungry holidays. Our verdict: buy Drimsim for the number, pair it with a cheap data eSIM from the main guide, and put the gigabytes on the cheap one.
