The border problem

Greece and Turkey on one eSIM

Turkey is not part of EU roaming, so most "Europe" and all Greece-only plans die at the border. Two setups work. Here is the honest comparison.

Texting on the ferry between Greece and Turkey
Kos → Bodrum · both lines installed
Quick answerCrossing from Greece to Turkey? Either buy one regional plan that names Turkey, like Airalo Eurolink (42 countries, Turkey and Greece both included), or install two single-country eSIMs before you fly, which is usually cheaper per GB. A Greece-only or EU-only plan will not work in Turkey. Checked August 31, 2026.

Your options two that work, one that doesn't

SetupHow it worksBest for
One regional eSIM
Airalo Eurolink
42 countries on one plan, Turkey and Greece included. One install, nothing to switch at the border.Multi-stop trips, shorter stays, anyone who values zero fiddling
Two single-country eSIMs
e.g. Saily Greece + Saily Turkey
Install both at home, switch the active line at the border. Five minutes of settings.Longer stays in each country, best price per GB, Cosmote coverage while in Greece
A Greece or EU planStops working the moment you cross. Turkey is not in EU roaming.Nobody. This is the mistake this page exists to prevent.

Our lean: island time in Greece plus a week in Istanbul and the coast? Two single-country eSIMs. You keep Cosmote-grade coverage in Greece and pay local-level prices in both. Hopping through more countries than two? Eurolink and stop thinking about it.

Ferry day-trips count: Kos to Bodrum, Rhodes to Marmaris, Chios to Çeşme. Your Greek plan goes silent mid-strait. If your trip includes one of these, have the Turkey line installed before boarding.

Questions border edition

Why doesn't my Europe eSIM work in Turkey?

"Europe" plans are built on EU roaming agreements. Turkey is not in the EU or the EEA, so it needs its own coverage deal, and most regional plans skip it. Always check the country list for the word Turkey, not the word Europe.

Can I have both eSIMs installed at once?

Yes. Modern iPhones and Androids hold multiple eSIM profiles; you just choose which line is active for data. Install both at home on wifi, activate each when you arrive in its country.

What about Greece and Albania, or North Macedonia?

Same logic: not EU roaming. Eurolink covers Albania, Serbia and the Balkans too, which makes it the default for any Balkan road trip.
